As Christ Is, So Am I - Seeing Christ in One Another — Especially in Marriage

Scripture makes a profound declaration:
“As He is, so are we in this world.” — 1 John 4:17
This is not poetic or symbolic language.
It is spiritual reality.
Those who are in Christ carry His life, His Spirit, and His presence.
Christ does not dwell in buildings, systems, or hierarchies.
He dwells in people.
Every believer is a living temple of the Holy Spirit.
So to diminish, control, silence, or dominate another believer—especially one’s spouse—is to fail to recognize Christ in them.
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” — Colossians 1:27
How we treat one another reveals how we truly see Him.
God Shows No Favoritism
God’s Kingdom has never been built on superiority, rank, or favoritism.
“God shows no partiality.” — Acts 10:34
There is no hierarchy of value within the Body of Christ.
No gender carries more worth.
No role carries more dignity.
No person carries “more of God.”
The foot is not less than the hand.
The woman is not beneath the man.
The young are not inferior to the old.
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28
Oneness does not erase distinction.
But it absolutely abolishes domination.
In the Kingdom, we are not called to primarily see gender or race — we are called to see Christ in one another.
Christ in Us: Resurrection Power
The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in every believer.
“The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.” — Romans 8:11
There is no such thing as:
less anointed
less capable
less called
less authorized
The idea that certain believers—especially women—must remain limited, silent, or dependent directly contradicts resurrection power.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13
There is no “women can’t” in the Kingdom.
There is only “Christ can — in us.”
From the Beginning: God’s Design Has Not Changed
Hierarchy inside His Body was never God’s design.
Partnership was.
“So God created humankind in His image… male and female He created them… and said… rule and govern.” — Genesis 1:27–28
Both were created in God’s image
Both were blessed.
Both were given authority.
Both were entrusted with stewardship.
Domination entered through sin. It was never God’s heart.
And Christ did not come to preserve the effects of the fall.
He came to restore what sin distorted.
God’s design has not changed.
Marriage: Seeing Christ in Your Spouse
Marriage is not a place for power. It is a place for reverence.
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” — Ephesians 5:21
Mutual submission is not weakness. It is Christlikeness.
This raises an honest and revealing question:
How would a husband treat Jesus if he were married to Him?
Would he:
control Him?
silence Him?
make decisions without Him?
demand the final say?
treat Him like a housemaid?
speak down to Him or belittle Him?
Of course not.
Yet Scripture says Christ lives in our spouses.
To dishonor one’s wife is to dishonor Christ in her.
The Mind of Christ
Paul describes the posture that should govern every Christian relationship:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” — Philippians 2:3
This is the mind of Christ.
Not self-exaltation, but self-giving love.
Not dominance, but humility
Not control, but honor.
Leadership in the Kingdom is not about biology or position.
It is about character.
It is about fruit.
It is about becoming like Jesus.
No Discrimination in the Body of Christ
Any form of discrimination—whether based on gender, race, age, or status—is incompatible with the gospel.
Jesus:
touched the untouchable
honored women
welcomed children
confronted pride
restored dignity
He never empowered one group to rule over another.
So neither should we.
If Christ lives in us, then every person must be treated with love, dignity, and respect—at all times.
A Holy Awareness
Christians—especially husbands—must live with a holy awareness:
You are standing before someone who carries Christ.
You are speaking to someone indwelt by the Holy Spirit.
You are in covenant with a living temple of God.
To honor them is to honor Him.
To wound them is to wound the heart of Christ.
We should not first see male or female.
We should not first see race or status.
We should see Christ.
Conclusion: Christ at the Center
The Kingdom of God is not about who has the final say.
It is about who looks most like Jesus.
Where Christ reigns:
There is no superiority
There is no discrimination
There is no silencing
There is no exclusion
There is no control
There is only love expressed through service, honor, and humility
As He is — so are we in this world.
When we truly see Christ in one another—especially in marriage—our homes become living testimonies,
our relationships become ministries,
and the Church becomes a visible witness of His glory.
